How do I solve a ‘can’t connect to the DHCP server’ issue?

I am also experiencing this issue. It began after a major software update on the Xbox earlier this year. This issue affects only the XBox, all other devices on the network are fine.

- On powerup: the XBox is able to negotiate an IP address using DHCP.

- After a period of time (presumably the DHCP TTL period): network connectivity is lost and the XBox reports that DHCP is failing.

- Disabling and Re-enabling the network interface within the XBox settings menu restores connectivity.

I have now configured a static IP address on the XBox and it has performed flawlessly since.

I believe that an issue with DHCP negotiation was introduced with the software update that occurred earlier this year.

A DHCP server is a device that assigns IP addresses to devices on a network. If your Xbox console can't connect to the DHCP server, it means that it can't get an IP address and access the internet. There are a few possible causes and solutions for this issue:

-Check Xbox Network Status for outage

- Check your network cable and router. Make sure that your network cable is plugged in securely to both your console and your router. Try to restart your router by unplugging it for 10 seconds and plugging it back in. If you are using a wireless connection, make sure that your console is within range of your router and that you have entered the correct password for your network.

- Check your network settings. Go to Settings > Network > Network settings on your console and select Test network connection. If you see an error message, follow the troubleshooting steps on the screen. You can also try to manually configure your IP settings by selecting Advanced settings > IP settings > Manual and entering the IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS servers provided by your internet service provider (ISP).

- Contact your ISP. If none of the above steps work, there might be a problem with your ISP's DHCP server or firewall. Contact your ISP and ask them to check if their DHCP server is working properly and if they have any restrictions or blocks on your network. They might also be able to provide you with alternative IP settings that you can use on your console.

I'm having the same issue except I'm using a public xfinity hotspot. Worked for over three years now all of a sudden it tells me this, I can't mess with the router because there is no router it's just xfinity wifi. What should I do?

This actually didn’t work either. While trying these tips, I kept getting “Can’t get an IP address” (even though it had) and “Can’t connect to a DHCP server”
