In simple terms, a DNS (Domain Name System) server is a computer server that acts like a phonebook for the internet. It translates human-readable domain names (like xbox.com) into IP addresses that allow your console/PC/Phone to connect to such sites and services. DNS servers are also used to get your your console to connect to the Xbox Live Service.

By default your connection should use the DNS server your ISP uses. Or, you can change the server address to a more public DNS such as Google's 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.8.4 as Tezzarific pointed out.

just put the router ip address for the dns and that will work, usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, if not use googles dns servers as 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

DNS servers, should be 2 dns server numbers, on your xbox network configure screen enter dns settings manually, primary setting is the top dns number supplied in cmd, the secondary is obviously the 1 below, after entering the ip and dns settings manually
re run connection test and then sign in using your live account. hopefully you should now be connected to xbox live.

Try using manual DNS settings. To do this, take a look at your computer's settings.

Step 1: Get your computer's DNS settings.

On your computer, click Start, type cmd, and then press ENTER.

At the prompt, type ipconfig /all, and then press ENTER.

Scroll and find a line that begins with DNS Servers.

Write down the DNS server numbers.

Step 2: Set your console's DNS settings.

Now enter the DNS numbers on your Xbox 360 console. Here's how:

Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and then select System Settings.

Select Network Settings.

Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network.

Select Configure Network.

On the Basic Settings tab, select DNS Settings.

Select Manual.

Select Primary DNS Server.

Enter the first number you wrote down, and then select Done.

Select Secondary DNS Server.

Enter the second number you wrote down, and then select Done.

Select Done again.

Press the B button on your controller and then select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

If this solution worked, your console will connect to Xbox LIVE.

Note If you are prompted to update your console software, select Yes.
