How do I remove Parental controls on a 15 year old XBL account

Hi there,

I'm about to lose my mind with the poor support Xbox/MS have provided here.

I live in Western Australia, so when I finish work (at 5pm WA time) the call centre is ALREADY closed.

Excellent service - I guess I'll wake up at 4am tomorrow to call them. That sounds reasonable.

Anyway - to get to my point, I'm unable to download TW Warhammer 3 as apparently there are age restriction controls on my XBL account... which is 15 years old.

I'm a 29 year old male, so I'm assuming these would have been setup when I first created the account, prior to being an adult.

Unfortunately, my parent who set up my account, passed away 2 years ago, and there absolutely no way I could ever get their emails back.

Surely Microsoft must be able to look at accounts ages and realise that age restricting a 15 year old account is paramount to ridiculous. I had this account created when Halo2 was the main XBL title, and have had a subscription ever since.

The way that I'm simply gatekept by MS age policy is honestly insane, I also can't change any restrictions on my own account, because that would be too simple.

Seriously MS - you act like you're the gamers friends by funding comanies like Mojang and purchasing a sinking Acti-Blizz - then you forget who is paying your bills for the last 15 years.

That shouldn't be a problem. Are you trying to install the game on your Xbox App PC? If yes, can you please try to sign out then sign back in before trying to install the game again?

Hi Francia,

I don't believe the cause is the "family" settings. I believe parental controls were placed on the account on my orinigal Xbox360. I recall several years ago, I was requested to put in a different email address to approve a purchase - that email address belonged to my parent.

The "Family" I am in already has me having elevated priviledges - I can approve or decline my step kids getting games etc.

The Sign Out button within Xbox app on PC is greyed out...

Hi Hybrid, I hope you're doing great out there despite the issue that you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regards to your concern.

If you're already an adult you should be able to leave the family group by signing in to https://account.microsoft.com/family.

Also, if you're on Xbox App, kindly try to sign out and sign back into your account before attempting to install your game again.

Alright. Can you please try to repair and reset the Xbox App then sign in to check?

Settings > Apps & Features > Apps > Search for Xbox App > Advanced Options > Repair & Reset.
