Check your order history on the account you purchased the gifts on and it should list the code there. http://account.microsoft.com

Have you tried to change your account primary alias?

Please, follow these steps:

Sign in to the Microsoft Website: https://account.live.com/names/manage

Click on the Make Primary link on the right side of your e-mail (the one you can access).

Confirm the operation.

What's the code for?

If it's for the 14 days of Gold that came in the box (not sure if it was all consoles), the error will be because that code cannot be applied to an existing Gold membership (it says so on the Terms printed on it).
