    How do I recover my old Xbox profile and Gamertag?


    One of my Xbox accounts were locked a few years ago and I forgot about it. Today I tried logging back in and I got the account back. But when I got on the Xbox app, my old Gamertag "SideArtifact601" was not there. Xbox was asking me to make a completely new Gamertag. After I did that, I searched up the profile "SideArtifact601" And it had my name, profile picture, and gamertag. But the app is showing me as if the profile was not mine. With the "Message" and "Add Friend" button. All of this on the exact same account I used years ago. That I had logged into just now.

    I am trying to recover my sons gamertag, that XBOX told me to delete, so that he can get all his saved data back. Any ideas on how I can do this? I talked to XBOX and they are no help. Tried redownloading his profile but it is only downloading his new gamertag

    Have you tried completing the Account Recovery forum yet - https://account.live.com/acsr. You'll have to enter as much information as you can about the account you are
    trying to recover, assuming it was a Live account on the 360 and not a local account (not connected to any Live account).
    Unfortunately this won't work because the email I used for that gamertag and live account is the one I'm logged into now with the wrong gamertag attached.

    Hello SwordsmanFl, when we change the Gamertag it may take some time for it to be updated in all developer databases, including Mojang.

    I don't know how you ended up without your original Gamertag but once it's changed it's not possible to get it back.

    Before calling support, can you try running a Network Connection Test, or simply recovering your Gamertag? Either of those should do the trick :)
