How do I recover my account if there is two step verification enabled, but my phone number...

I have an account that I lost and there is a phone number verification but I lost that phone number and got a new one and I tried the recovery form but it dident work but I also have video proof that I have the account I tried the recovery form but it didn’t work

The recovery form wont work if you have 2 step verification enabled.

When you first enabled the phone number verification it would have given you several backup recovery codes which are meant to be used in this exact sort of situation. It would have told you to save them somewhere safe.

Did you save those codes? If not unfortunately your account would be forever lost as having two step verification enabled also takes the ability to recover the account out of the hands of support

Should you get your account back, I heartily recommend to enable Two Step Verification.

After getting access to your account again, go to
https://account.live.com/Proofs/Manage and sign in with your recovered account.

There scroll down to the section where you can enable Two Step Verification.

After enabling Two Step Verification, also use the instructions to set up a free Authenticator App on your smartphone.

With your account protected by Two Step Verification and the Authenticator App, a hacker would now have to physically steal your phone to get access to your account.

Every time someone (e.g. a hacker) tries to sign into your account on a new device, they are asked for a code number or a confirmation popping up on your phone.

Unless you confirm the login with the code from your phone or by tapping the accept button, they can't sign into the account.

If you have 2-step verification enabled, you won't be able to recover the account this way. Sadly, if you can't access any of the security methods on the account (email address or phone number), then it won't be possible to recover your account.

Are you still able to go to
https://account.live.com/Proofs/Manage and sign into your account?

If you are signed in on the account security proofs page, please change your password again.

After changing the password, check your security information (i.e. secondary emails and phone numbers that are used to recover your account in case you forget your password).

Make sure that there are no unknown emails or phone numbers present. A hacker that added their own email and phone number could then recover your account again with the provided email and phone number.

And MOST IMPORTANTLY: Scroll down on the page and enable Two Step Verification.

After enabling Two Step Verification, set up the free authenticator app on your smartphone.

With that app and Two Step Verification, the Live service will ask for a secret code whenever someone tries to sign in to your account from a new device.

Unless the hacker physically steals your phone, the hacker can't get the code and will be unable to get into your account to change the password.

Also change the passwords of your email accounts that are in your account's security information.

If the hacker managed to get access to your recovery email account, they can again reset your password, and confirming the reset through your hacked email.

If possible also enable Two Step Verification with your email account, if you are using Gmail or Outlook.

Were you signed out of your account, because someone else used your account without your authorization?

If so, IMMEDIATELY go to
https://account.live.com/Proofs/Manage and change your password!

Make sure you change it to a secure password, by thinking of a sentence that you can easily remember. For example: "In order to keep hackers out of my account, I enable Two Step Verification later!"

From that sentence, take the first letters of each word complete with capitalization and punctuation and you'll get "Iotkhooma,IeTSVl!"

This is a password you can easily remember thanks to the sentence you chose, and it's still complex.

HOWEVER:

Passwords are still very insecure if you are a victim of phishing.

Therefore it's IMPORTANT, that you enable Two Step Verification on that page further down.

Enable Two Step Verification and set up the free Authenticator App on your phone.

Now, whenever a hacker tries to sign into your account, they are asked for a secret code that you need to confirm on your phone.

Unless the hacker is able to physically steal your phone, no one can get into your account again.

After you enabled Two Step Verification and changed your password, make sure that the hacker didn't add his own email and phone number to your account. Otherwise the hacker can recover your account again.

And if you used the same password for your email account, change that as well. Otherwise the hacker could use your email account to recover your Microsoft Account.
