How do I recover an Xbox One old profile and gamertag? (STILL HAVE XBOX ONE)

I have the correct email and I changed my password in order to access the old account (Gamer Tag: "Foamy Lobsterr"). When I signed in it made me create a new Gamer Tag (different from the old one) and when all was said and done it was a completely new account, but with the same email. I can see in my friends list tab that the account and gamer tag (Foamy Lobsterr) still exists, but when I use the correct email it does not sign me into that account. It only shows the new one I had to make upon my first sign in.

Does anyone know how to access my old account? I have the correct email, and I created a new password in order to access it. But Foamy Lobsterr does not show up when I sign into Xbox or on the Microsoft website. Both only show the new one.

Does anybody have any other steps I could try in order to get Foamy Lobsterr back?

Hi Rebecca!

Please be informed that a Microsoft account's primary email address cannot be used or attached to a different account because it's unique to each of our accounts. Your main gamertag or account must have a different email address other than the one you knew.

You could try to recover your account through this link https://account.live.com/username/recover using your gamertag or phone number that might have been attached to your original account. Before you begin, make sure that you sign out the account that's currently signed in to https://account.microsoft.com website.

without signing in on your profile press the xbox button, scroll down to profiles, then onto recover gamertag and recover your tag while your old one is still there.this has just worked for me after speaking to microsoft for half an hour trying different

Thanks for your response onyx62is. I still have a question, though. In order to transfer licenses to the old account I also have to transfer the old gamertag to the new console. In doing so, I'm afraid I would not be able to get the benefit of the free
three month or free one month per gametag since the Xbox Live may detect that an old profile/gamertag is configured into the new console. Or are these free offers each one chained to new gamertags/email accounts and are independent from the old profile?

i am having the exact same problem, their gamertag / profile was on a memory unit, we have XBox family account and they are being asked fow Live ID user and password, even entering it it doesnt allow it to sign in, it still says it needs to logon. Tried
moving every profile back to the hard drive and nothing changed. I then deleted the profile in order to 'recover it' there is no longer recover gamertag, but recover profile... used that and it basically created a brand new one with a new gamertag no points!!

i can still see his previous gamertag in my family dashboard though, but he cant login to it
