How do I play (or streatm) music from my Amazon Music Library?

Here's what I did.

Summary: Uninstall the music app, then reinstall it from the windows 8 store (free app.).

Details: 1. sign out of your xbox account from within the music app. 2. Close the music app* 3. uninstall the app.* (I think this is better than refreshing the entire windows 8 as someone suggested below). 4. Go to windows explorer, find your "music
library" folder.* 5) right-click, properties on the library folder. Make sure the network location where your music is... is listed correctly there. remove any unnecessary folders from your music library. Even better: remove them ALL for now. 5. reinstall
the music app from the windows 8 store.* 6. Start the music app. 7. Swipe to move to the left to see "my music". It should show 0 songs*** 8. Now, go back to windows explorer and add your network music collection folder to your "music library". 9.
Songs should start appearing in the music app... and they should all play.

*Asterisk items - sorry I didn't provide more detail. You can Google if you don't know how to do these things.

Music app tip: change preferences to always open to "my music" instead of "now playing" or whatever

Music library tip 1: IMPORTANT: the top-level folder that contains your music collection should be set up to "allow indexing...". Right click on the folder, advanced properties. Check the checkbox to allow indexing. Very important - this is how the
music app. gets the info like album art and artist.

Music library tip 2: when adding a network folder to the music library, add a network share like this: \\MyShareName\MyFolderName, not with a mapped drive like this: X:\MyFolderOnTheSharedXDrive. I think this worked better for me.

I am having the same issue. I copied a bunch of Windows Media files from an older machine into my Surface Pro's music library. I can use File Manager to open and play files one by one ... but they don't show up (for example by Album) in My Music within the
Music App.



... And I get a message "It's lonely here. Why not add some music?" In File Manager, the directory with all the music files shows up in the Music Library. And I am also seeing the message "Your music is hidden by the filter."

There are two problems this causes, 1). the folder is taking up lots of disk space. 2). it causes problems 'no license' when playing in Media Center.

My library is on it's own drive h:\Music\. Media Center uses the same folder. Music Pass is using H:\Music\Xbox Music\Xbox Music Pass\ which means these write protected files are in my library. Media Center finds these wma right protected files on the XBox,
and my other win 8 machines running Media Center, and they stop playing by popping a message stating license not found. I own all of these songs since I bought the CD's and ripped them to the library myself.

All I want to do is start up Media Center on the Xbox and play all of my music without stopping, but since this folder is within my library and Media Center cannot locate the Media Pass license for these files, it stops playing.

I searched for a registry entry to move the '\Xbox Music Pass\' directory out of my library but no luck.

A solution would be nice.

I did not download my music from Xbox Music though I did sync my music library, which was on my PC, onto the Xbox Music app on my PC. The music collection comes from CDs I have ripped onto my PC and they all have an mp3 format.

Your solution worked beautifully for me. One of the recent updates for Win 8.1 preview messed up all of my libraries and moved my music to "This PC > Music" from "Libraries > Music." Once I restored the libraries and moved my music back to the music library,
everything was fine.

This problem is not isolated to the Music Library. All of my libraries had been corrupted and all my files had been moved to "This PC > Documents/Pictures/Videos/etc." Could have far-reaching consequences, especially with Xbox apps. Luckily the fix was easy!

FYI I'm using an HP Envy 4 notebook (4-1110us) running Windows 8.1 preview.
