How do I play my game with games for windows being discontinued?

I bought a game on Steam, and it won't play until games for windows has been downloaded. Problem is, games for windows has been discontinued so there's no way for me to download it. What can I do? The game out right won't open unless this non-existent program is downloaded.

Hi,

Some of these old GFW (Games for Windows Live) titles can have the GFW access removed. Unfortunately in terms of helping you on this forum, you haven't stated what game you're trying to play.

Go to https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Home put your game in the search and see if you can remove the GFW requirement

As for the program, it's no longer officially available. However, a full GFW can be downloaded from https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1012-microsoft-games-for-windows-live

super meat boy seems like a game id throw my controller out the window lol.

am i right in thinking that MS Points were getting discontinued? if not, how much do the four games you listed above cost?

most of the features of the companion app are gone in windows 11, as the app is being discontinued slowly on windows 10 and 11.
