How do I opt out of the current (last Xbox experience program preview?)

If your pending status is for the Latest Xbox Experience then you're good to go when the update rolls around for you.

Are you currently in the Insider/Preview program, or have recently opted out of it?

If so, the Xbox is subject to factory resetting itself to new preview updates (if you're still in the program), or the latest public OS release (if you've opted out).

Last I remember how the Preview Program worked, you will need to first opt out of the program. Read the

FAQ here for instructions on opting out. There is also a link to a private forum that only those in the Preview Program have access to. You can post there for further help.

After opting out, you will either have to wait a few business days or until the next dashboard update goes current (that's the part I forgot how exactly the program works). You will eventually be prompted to perform a full factory reset of the system, which
you must do in order to get rid of the preview firmware.

Please note that when you sign up through this preview program, you've essentially committed your console to be a beta-testing platform for the next dashboard update. Agreeing to opt-in assumes you have understood that the preview will likely contain bugs,
which implies a range anywhere from strange, general behavior of the system to outright being unable to play games.

by opting-in to the new experience, you will still be a part of the preview program as it is still a 'preview'. There are now two groups in the program - "existing" (as in the current experience) and "new" (which is the new preview that is slowly rolling
out to those who have opted in).

1. Prior to receiving the New Xbox One Experience Update Preview, take no action – we’ll default you to remaining on the Existing Xbox One Experience preview. You’ll still get the benefits of Preview, like Backward Compatibility, but you’ll stay on the current
   Xbox One update that’s available to the public. Later, just before the general release of the New Xbox One Experience, we’ll update your console to the latest Preview build, so you’ll still get it a little early.
   
2. In the Registration area of the Xbox Preview Dashboard, you can choose Remove to remove your console from the program entirely. Your console’s removal will be processed within 72 hours.
   
   NOTE: If you choose this option after taking the New Xbox One Experience Preview update, your console will go back to the current general release of the Xbox One software, but this will restore factory defaults on your console, and erase all
   locally stored accounts, apps, games, saved games, settings, and home Xbox associations. We encourage all users to download/copy your favorite games to External Hard disks to ensure a quick recovery option in the event of data loss from a removal.

Is your console used? If so, the previous owner may have been in the preview program. If it is not, the preview program isn't completely random. you have to be invited by a friend, and then approve membership by downloading the preview app and opting in
to the update. If you want out of the program, you can opt out in the Preview app. Go to Registration, Change, and then you can completely opt out of the program, or opt out of the New Xbox One Experience. However, this will factory reset your console, which
will cause you to have to reinstall all games and apps that are on the internal hard drive, so I would move them to an external drive if possible.
