How do I mod the AA Wraith in Halo 3 to not explode without a driver?

You should definitely try the Smart Choke on on the Wraith, without it you loose so much of the Wraith potential , because its one of very few shotguns that are effective on long range and could pierce cover(with piercing mod or HVB on) with exception the
crusader !

and by the way the Shotgun High Velocity Barrel and other mods that increases the Weight are bugged on non DLC weapons to name some examples , Mattock ,Black Widow ,WRAITH, Crusader,Claymore etc , you can use any mod and it wont effect your cool down negatively!

There have been reports of fit issues with older battery packs and newer controllers. The new controllers not being recognized at all is somewhat odd, though. See if they work with the 360 via the cable without the battery pack (just use the AA pack without
batteries to prevent damage to the connector.

Not in my experience... even in campaign all you can do if you board a wraith is destroy it, either by melee or grenade. BTW, this turned a certain achievement... Mortardom, I think into nothing more than an exercise in frustration and ridiculousness that
I finally gave up on.

In campaign, the best way to take a Wraith is to kill the gunner and hop in the gunner seat. This will cause the driver to get out. Then you just kill the driver, get out of the gunner seat and hop in the driver seat.

yeah, how can it still be halo if the warthog sounds different? also don't like how the wraith and ghost guns sound...

1. kill the gunner either with head shots or by overcharge plasma pistol and sticky grenade

2. jump up onto the wraith above the gunners turret.

3 look at the empty turret and the instuction will appear, "hold 'x' to operate turret."

4. hold the 'x' button untill you get in the turret seat. this will make the driver get out.

5. kill the driver (usually has a sword so shoot it with the turret gun)

6. hold 'x'to exit turret

7. move to the side of the wraith just behind the front wing bit so that the instruction "hold 'x' to drive wraith" appears.

8. hold 'x'. this will put you in the drivers seat.

9. shoot stuff to blow it up and enjoy.
