How do I know when my power supply is bad?

My Xbox one s is coming on but shutting itself right back off. But it's never orange it's always white and sometimes the console will power up all the way. I know a little bit about small things power supplies but I don't want to mess up my gaming system.

It's really hard to say without examining the console. There are numerous potential causes for what you're experiencing.

If it's out of warranty, your best bet would be to find a decent local repair place that can take a look at it for you IMO.

how do you know that the power supply is good? Usually that's a symptom of a failure to "ramp up" after initial boot, which is usually a bad power supply

I found a troubleshooting page.

After following the troubleshooting it says to order new power supply.

But my console if 4 years old and out of warranty so how do I know it's really the power supply?

I don't want to spend money on a new power supply only to get the red light again.

So does anyone know if there is the possibility this troubleshooter is wrong and it's not my power supply?

My specific issue is my power supply went bad. I called Microsoft, not for support, not for repair service but to purchase a NEW oem power supply. I received a 40 dollar USED power supply. I could of purchased a used power supply at a pawn shop for half
that price.
