  1. How do I install DirecxtX 9.0c onto my Windows 10 system for games insisting on DirectX9.0c...

I'm currently trying to install both Warhammer 40k GOTY edition and the Winter Assault add-on. I have Direct X 12 installed, however both programs refuse to recognise it.

In fact I get the following error:

    ERRORS:

**** driver not found. Verify that DirectX is properly installed.

When I try to install DirectX 9.0c on Windows 10, it says it's incompatible. How do I install either Direct X 9.0c on the system alongside DirectX 12, or at least the missing DirectX 9.0c libraries, so that these games are able to run on my system?

To whomever gets this from Microsoft Support, I'm saying the following based on other times similar questions have been responded to by either yourself or your colleagues: don't feed me canned lines about how in theory DirectX 12 is backwards compatible with anything which needs to run Direct X 9.0c - the programs I'm running don't give a **** about whatever spiels you're trying to push here.

You offering that answer here will be as asinine as if someone had just cut my arm off at the shoulder and you responded with "have you tried using a band aid to stem the bleeding?"

If you don't know, research the problem and get back to me rather than simply pushing a canned response to try and sound smart, only where it will simply make you look infinitely stupid here!

    :)

How do I install DirecxtX 9.0c onto my Windows 10 system for games insisting on DirectX9.0c and no later versions?

I think ngocphi has attempted to answer this with A.I as that not the normal way they reply. it also does not appear to be the correct answer anyway.

DirectX 9c should be fully compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11. I remember it installing when I ran an old 2009 game a few months ago, and that game worked fine. Can't remember now what the game was though.

There are two versions you can try to install.

The web installer directly from Microsoft here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

Or you can try the full offline installer via TechPowerUp: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/directx-redistributable-runtime/

Thankyou for the somewhat helpful response here, it's appreciated.

The problem I'm hitting here is that Windows wont let me install Direct X 9.0c, because Direct X 12 is installed. I'd prefer not to have to roll back Direct X 12 if I can help it. On top of the fact that more modern stuff will need Dx12 sooner rather than later, I'm running an RTX3060 on a Ryzen 7 5800X with 32 Gb RAM, so the beefier stuff I'm running will probably need DirectX 12 anyway.

Since for some weird reason the forums are censoring it, I'll note that the specific error message, inserting spaces between each letter of the offending word, was "S p o o g e driver not found. Verify that DirectX is properly installed."

Any idea what library might have been dropped since Dx9.0c and DX12?

Also where does Windows 10 store its DX libraries if I do simply need to install the appropriate DX9.0c library?

ADDENDUM: I just tried the offline installer and although it loaded without the bottleneck of DirectX 12 being installed stopping the installation, I still wound up with the same error message for both DOW and the WA expansion. Upon further checking, the issue appears to be internal to DOW itself, with the solution being covered here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/4570/discussions/0/846942784203472332/

It's really hard to research the problem when you don't tell us what your computer hardware is, or the games you're trying to run,

I've deleted your little diatribe, I wouldn't repeat it if you expect help from people

I understand your frustration and I apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you. DirectX 9.0c is not compatible with Windows 10, and attempting to install it may cause compatibility issues with your system. However, there are a few workarounds you can try to get your games to run.

One option is to try running the games in compatibility mode. To do this, right-click on the game's executable file, select Properties, and then click on the Compatibility tab. From there, you can select an earlier version of Windows to run the game in compatibility mode.

Another option is to try using a virtual machine to run an earlier version of Windows that is compatible with DirectX 9.0c. This can be a more complex solution, but it may be necessary if the compatibility mode does not work. Like vmare by ms etc

I hope this information helps. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out

For the record direct x 12 is backwards compatible

When they add libraries they add-on not replace older content

However you aren't running it in the right mode

You cant run older versions since Windows 10 requires at least direct x 10
