How do I get rid of the message "to do this, change a setting"

I've been having an issue as of this week where every online game I play, I get a message "To do this, change a setting". Now I've had this xbox for 4 months without any issues.

My settings were always the same. I tried setting it to adult (I am an adult but I have custom settings) and nothing.

I contacted support on the phone and their help wasn't helpful. I did try what they said, which was to factory reset it. Still no luck.

I'm at a lost. I go to where it tells me to go, even though it's pretty vague, and I enable everything in the custom settings, and still doesn't work.

I did that, but it only shows my account. I never made a family plan or anything with it.

Hi, Chris_065! Thanks for sharing your concern with me today. The error you're getting usually shows up if the account is being detected as a child which is when you create the Microsoft account then you enter the wrong birth date by accident or you are really below 18 or 21 years old. Kindly check if you have an active game pass Ultimate or Xbox live at account.microsoft.com/services. Once confirmed, kindly go to your Xbox Settings. Select Network Settings > Advanced Settings. Under Change Settings select Alternate MAC Address> select Clear. Allow the console to restart when prompted then try to launch the game again.

If that did not work, try changing your DNS. Go to Settings > Network > Advanced Settings > DNS settings > manual

Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8

Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4

then check again.
