How do I get rid of my Numbers in my Gamertag my name is unique but I still have them.

Title says it all, Im really not happy with my name having the numbers in every Xbox game or game Microsoft owns. I dont understand, my name is/was unique at the time of making it and now i have to stare at these unpleasant numbers on my name every times i boot a game. Makes it much more difficult to see where I am on a leader board and where my friends are as well.
Is there a fix for this without being sucked dry for 20+ dollars because it really feels like a way to get me to change my to something else and back again.

It doesn't matter if you used a free gamertag change or it is a paid change, if the Gamertag is already taken a suffix will be added

The change costs 10 USD, you will be charged for the said amount it doesn't matter if the Gamertag that you will change it is unique or not.

If you're seeing a suffix on your name it means that there is an original user that first has the Gamertag. You can validate it here: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/account-pro...

You may need to change your Gamertag into something that no one else has yet in that way there will be no suffix at the end of your Gamertag.

Doesn't the free name change automatically mark the gamer tag as taken?

To clarify I have read several accounts online saying that if you use the initial name change provided by Microsoft it makes it have the number suffix.

If true it means I need to spend 10 dollars to make my name another and then 10 again to change it back.

And that's even if you can get names that are no longer taken without a suffix. Lots of "ifs" for 20 bucks on a near useless quality of life feature.

I would really appreciate if I could just get a solid answer on what I'm confused on since Microsoft doesn't have any good info on it.

The username you selected is not unique therefore you get a hash and numbers after it, you would need to select a unique gamertag to get rid of the numbers, it shows what your tag will look like just before you change it, you would need to pay again to change.

And yet, I get the numbers despite there being NOBODY else to differentiate from.

This system is woefully outdated, and there's been better ways to do it for decades.
