how do i get my gamertag back

In this situation, the only thing you can try is to contact Support directly. Not sure how you " lost " your Gamertag, if you changed and could not change it back, or if it was deemed offensive, but truly the new system is 12 characters max for the Gamertag.

The problem choice you choose on the Support link might not give you access to Request a Call or Live Chat, and in this case, try selecting other problems ( even if does not match the issue you are facing ) because what is important here is for you to contact Support. Your old Gamertag should be blocked for 30 days after the change.

So do not tell anyone about it and remember the date to change it back.

Hopefully it wasn't an old Gt with more than 12 characters, cause it's impossible to get those old Gts back.

As mentioned above, I think you will not get a refund cause it's your responsebility, to take care of your account !

whatever happens on your account is your responsibility, does not matter who did it. get your friend to pay up and then hope your old tag has not been taken.

I apologize, but the only way to get your old gamertag back is to pay another $10 to change it again. Unfortunately, if someone else has already claimed your original gamertag, you may not be able to get it back unless the person is willing to release it and let you claim it on your account. However, if no one has taken your original gamertag, you can claim it again as long as it follows the Xbox Code of Conduct.

not anymore it aint, you can change the tag and immediately use that old tag on a new account, if you go to change your name and check to see if a tag is available but are trying to make your mind up then it locks the tag from others for about 2 hours then it can be selected by anyone again.
