How do i get better connection with my games so I don't lag out

Hi there Joshua W.

I am Lumie and I would love to assist you today.

I am so sorry you are having issues with lag.

Improving your Xbox connection to reduce lag involves a combination of optimizing your network setup, configuring your Xbox settings, and potentially upgrading your hardware. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you achieve a better gaming connection:

Optimize Your Network Setup

Use a Wired Connection
Connect your Xbox directly to your router using an Ethernet cable. This provides a more stable and faster connection than Wi-Fi.
Ensure you’re using a high-quality Ethernet cable, preferably Cat 6 or higher for the best performance.

Optimize Wi-Fi Setup (If Wired is Not Possible)
Place your router in a central location and as close to your Xbox as possible. Avoid physical obstructions like walls or furniture.
Use a less congested Wi-Fi channel. Most routers default to common channels, which can be crowded. Use a Wi-Fi analyzer app to find the best channel.
Use the 5 GHz band for gaming if your router supports it. It’s faster and less congested than the 2.4 GHz band.

Minimize Network Traffic
Disconnect or limit the use of other devices that may be using bandwidth, such as streaming services or downloads.
Enable QoS settings on your router to prioritize gaming traffic. This helps ensure that your Xbox gets the necessary bandwidth for a smooth experience.

Configure Your Xbox Settings
Update Your Console
Make sure your Xbox software is up to date. New updates can include fixes and improvements for network performance.

Network Settings
Use the Xbox network settings to test your network speed. You can find this option in the Settings menu under Network.
Clearing the cache can sometimes improve performance. You can do this by holding down the power button on your Xbox for 10 seconds until it turns off, then unplugging it for a few minutes.

NAT Type
Ensure your NAT type is open. NAT type affects your ability to connect to other players and can impact game performance. Go to Settings > Network > Network settings > Test NAT type to check.
Set up port forwarding for Xbox Live ports. This can help achieve an open NAT. The ports to forward are typically 88 (UDP), 3074 (UDP and TCP), and 53 (UDP and TCP).

Upgrade Your Hardware
Router and Modem
Use a router that supports the latest Wi-Fi standards (Wi-Fi 6 or 802.11ax).
Ensure you have a high-quality modem that supports your internet speed.

Check Your Internet Service
Speed Requirements
Verify that your internet speed meets the requirements for online gaming. Xbox recommends a minimum download speed of 3 Mbps, but 15-25 Mbps is ideal for a better experience.
Check for consistent speeds. High latency and jitter can cause lag. Tools like Speedtest can help you measure your connection quality.

Upgrade Plan
If your current internet plan isn’t sufficient, consider upgrading to a plan with higher bandwidth.

Reduce Latency
Ping and Latency
Aim for a ping time below 50 ms for a smooth gaming experience. You can check this using various online tools.
Connect to game servers that are geographically closer to you. Many games offer this option in their settings.

Maintain Your Network
Regular Restarts
Regularly reboot your router to clear out any potential issues and maintain optimal performance.
Keep your router’s firmware up to date to ensure it has the latest features and security improvements.

I hope this helps.

I shall be here for your response. -Lumie

How to fix LAg(Vid)

I don't need a video to tell me how to "fix" lag when all I need is a better connection.

-

Here's the problem: the vast majority of players have differing connections that create a gap. This gap is what creates inconsistency, lag, & for some players lag comp as well.

-

Here's how to fix the problem: Everyone gets a better connection. If everyone has a good connection, there would be so little lag & virtually no lag comp, that everyone would be happy & have fun.

-

I've heard Google is coming out with a device in select states that has like 600 down & 300 up or something crazy ridiculous like that - I want my hands on it!

lag comp
Right im reading alot of stuff about this game is so laggy i hate this game coz of the lag,,,,,,maybe you need to get a better connection,im running 20meg and dont get the so called bullet lag or game lag,im with talktalk and are fine for mw3 so dont no
why u dont just shop about for a new and better connection
Glad to hear that you have no issues. But the truth of the matter is that you are probably lucky. Or more to the fact that you don't really have a good connection and therefore you are benefiting more from the compensation lag than anyone. From what I have
heard and read about lag and lag compensation(one of the biggest issues in this game) is that the people who have the bad connections are actually the ones who don't notice much "lag" in the game because the game is compensating for their bad connection to
make the people with good connections actually worse to create a level playing field. See they can't change much to make the bad connections better but they can change things to make the good connections worse to equal things out. So maybe you are just benefiting
from a junk connection. So I guess your plea to have everyone go out and get great connections will actually improve your odds of still being the connection that benefits most from lag compensation. Looks like a win win for you.

Slow down internet = Speed up mw3

Am using a 40MB connection with non-interleaving enabled and all my games have no lag and full bars so i dont understand how slowing your connection will result in better games

COD GHOST - LISTEN SERVER = PLAYER HOSTED MATCHES = NOT DEDICATED SERVER = HOST LAG

Yup, still no dedicated servers.Getting killed instantly but my bullets don't do anything. I run average 100MBPS connection speed and it's lagging and horrible experience. I find the new DLC arrivals are choppy, as Favela lags up and skips every time I play
it, running to top across soccer field always lags up.

I just don't understand how a 3 MBPS connection speed is a better online experience than a 100mbps speed connection. SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME.
