How do i force my xbox to use 2.4ghz instead of 5ghz?

You do it in your router control panel

Select perfered band.

Keep in mind 2.4ghz is more suspectiable ro interference then 5ghz as it's not so good thru walls or crowded spaces with multiple devices in the same area

If you are getting high ping you should test your area for wifi signals

I use one personally it tells me which Banda are crowded and advises me which band and channel will be optimized for my area with less interference

This is automatic, at the moment there is no way to enable or disable something like this in the console

But, most of the routers let you to do one or even both of the next configurations:

A. Create two Wi-Fi network, one with the 2.4Ghz frequency and the other with the 5Ghz

B. Disable the 5Ghz frequency if you don't really need it

You can try looking into the router configuration or you can call your internet company and ask their customer support team to do it for you

Do you differentiate the SSID for 2.4 and 5Ghz respectivily?

5Ghz is preferable over 2.4Ghz. If you're surrounding air is suitable for 5Ghz, then keep the 2.4Ghz to cordless phones and microwave ovens.

You may want to check if your wireless is 2.4 or 5ghz combined.

Most routers use 1 wifi network across both 2.4 and 5ghz frequency bands. This can be an issue. 2.4ghz has a further range than 5ghz, and if using 5ghz the signal may drop causing a disconnect.

It should be possible via router wifi settings to separate the 2, effectively making your router have "2" wifi networks- one running 2.4ghz and one using 5ghz. They doing that, and connecting only via the 2.4ghz and see if the issue persists

Turns out my network router was just too crappy to support 2 of them, so I went out and bought a Linksys E3000 Wireless Router, set it up. But it has 5GHz and 2.4GHz but my old xbox(not slim) can use 5GHz, 2.4GHz, but new xbox slim can't? Any help.
