How do I fix the 0x82d4004 error when caused by a software bug?

I have randomly encountered the 0x82d40004 error on an Xbox One X console and I believe it is due to a software bug. Regarding my Xbox One X...

• The drive will only eject discs if I press eject whilst the console is off

• The console will start up if I push a disc into the drive slot but the console will not eat the disc

• If the console is on then the eject button will not eject any discs but will trigger the sound effect

• If I attempt to play a disc then the error message will be displayed

• It seems like as if my Xbox is choosing to ignore the disc drive as the drive doesn't make any sound after the first few seconds of the console starting

This error seems to be random as sometimes the drive will play discs upon start up and other times it will not. It doesn't make any sense to blame a hardware fault as I've recently used it to install games and play a CD. The Xbox Status is normal when checking he Troubleshooter.

I've cleared persistent storage, changed power saving settings, switched to offline mode, performed a total factory reset, updated the console, turned the console on and off including power cycling the console and nothing has made the drive work consistently. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?
