How do I fix my aoe2DE? It sudenly decided it does not want to launch or install

What steps have you already taken to try to remedy this? To avoid people listing steps you have already tried

I forgot to ask before: Is it just this one game you are having issues with? Have you tried other games, do they work fine?

Do you use a 3rd party anti-virus programme? Something like Norton, Avast, Kaspersky etc? If so, try uninstalling it....Windows has Defender built in which works very well. Also, if you have anything like Razer Cortex or other programmes like that, uninstall those too. 3rd party programmes sometimes can create conflicts.

You could try opening up an elevated command prompt (Windows icon bottom left of screen, start typing "command prompt", when an option appears, choose "run as administrator", in the resultant window, type:

sfc/ scannow

This will check your Windows system files to make sure nothing has been corrupted/broken and attempt to repair any

Run that and see what it comes back with. If everything comes back as it should be and it still doesn't run, if it was me personally, I would reinstall Windows so it goes back to a blank slate....sometimes something on a system can create issues (for example, I had an, albeit, older game from 2004 which would simply not run on my system....in the end I had to install Windows on a second drive and, being a clean version, it then ran fine)

Once that's done, go to Windows Update and press check for updates, update as prompted, restart if needed...keep going back and checking till no more updates are found. Once done, go to the manufacturer of your graphics card and get the latest driver from them. At this point, install nothing else except AOE and then try it...if it works, then it meant something on your system was affecting it (anti-virus maybe or some game app)..if it then doesn't work, then it is a game issue
