How do I find the motion enhancement/anti judder option in my TV?

Sorry in advance - I know this is for gaming and Xbox but I literally could not find a single resource on Google.

It's a TCL c635 and I wanted to know how to find the motion clarity/smoothening options and see what it's like to play games at 120hz.

For some reason, the option is not there right now but was yesterday and for the first time I played flight simulator at 120fps! I think between then and now, something must have changed as the motion options are either not there at all under advanced settings or there is only one option for retaining cinema quality or something along those lines.

So... Do I have to get out of game mode or something to get the 120hz anti judder enhancement back? Is the Xbox preventing that setting from showing up? Do I need to switch to certain picture mode or turn off game mode on my TV to enable the anti judder/motion smoothening options?

This is really frustrating as it was there one day and after I put my TV into game mode and tweaked everything including HDR to my own preferences, I now don't have motion smoothening or can't find it.

    Yellphh!

    :)

It's because motion smoothing is terrible on it's best day, and it's high and variable latency results in those features being unusable for gaming

You're not getting 120hz. You're getting what the cheapest possible hardware and software thinks it might look like...eventually. It's a rollercoaster of latency

One of the best ways I demonstrate the difference between cheaper TVs and the more expensive ones is to use horizontal scrolling lyrics in rock band. Every time there's a gap the algorithm needs to catch back up and the lyrics blur. And that's with motion smoothing disabled, this is just the "round peg in square hole" software that generates the base image.

Motion smoothing is strictly for watching TV, and I and many others would tell you to disable it entirely. 120hz gaming is about 120 real frames arriving one every 8ms. Not 16, 50, 120, or skipping a bunch to catch up, which is what you're going to see with TV based interpolation

When it's done professionally it's done using high end professional software, in multiple passes, and in nowhere close to real time.

If you're interested in the subject, this is a video by Douglas Trumbull. Hes the grand master that did the VFX on 2001, Blade Runner, and other masterpieces. He's developed a professional system to shoot high frame rates, and then boil it down to lower FPS. He's using the same tech in reverse for spectacular results.

I hope that explains it :)

You really shouldn't be using motion interpolation when gaming. MSF2020 runs at 30fps, it will continue to run at 30fps no matter what motion smoothing you enable on your TV. The Game mode is designed for gaming. Motion interpolation is for watching TV/Movie content. Even then, while it has its uses, it's still not great.

In addition to the video from Sword, perhaps you should also take a look at these:

For those in the know, Motion Interpolation is also known as 'The Soap Opera Effect.'

Oh, I see. This means the issue is on the TV. I would recommend to reach TCL for this or use different TV. It's an issue on the advance settings of it.

Hi, I'm , an Independent advisor and I can surely help you.

Don't worry we will work on this together. It's going to be a setting of your TV and you'll be needing to reach TCL support for this so that they can check the advance settings of your TV

How do I find the motion enhancement/anti judder option in my TV?

Sorry, I failed to mention: I'm on SX and the TV is hdmi 2.1 capable.

If I enable VRR, I can no longer use the motion smoothening, anti-judder feature so I need to keep that off and ALLM from the Xbox settings as well.

I do have to lower resolution to 1440p to enable 120hz by using manual override instead of auto-detect. That's odd I think, as the TV should show the two refresh rates available but there's no refresh rate option at all just 4k uhd, 1080p and 720p. When I do the manual override thing, I don't see 4k uhd as a resolution option although the 60hz/120hz option below that pops up!

    Why is that though?
