Hope you are well. I'll be glad to help you, just remember that you're not talking to a Microsoft employee.

Just add the account that is logged into Xbox to the family group from the account that created that group. Automatically the console will be added as a connected device.

From the account that manages the group Press the Xbox button to open the guide. Select Sign in and sign into your account.

Press the Xbox button again and select Profile & system > Settings > Account > Family settings > Manage family members > Add to family.

Select your invited family member's profile and press the A button on your controller.

I just don't understand why I would not be able to register multiple consoles under my account, and have anyone in my family log onto them. I fully understand that I would have to pre-register "allowed" users, so that cheating is limited. But if I can buy
an xbox one, and have anyone log onto and play on it using my account, then why not give me a way to do that on a second and third console???

Hi, some Uni's have to have devices registered before they will work, did you have to register your PC before it would connect?
