How do I change my Xbox gamertag with no issues?

I tried to change my gamertag and paid for it, but after the payment went through, an error message popped up saying to try again. It took me back to the gamertag change page. I got charged $10, but the gamertag didn’t change. I contacted support about this an hour ago, and they refunded me. And this just happend again just 20 min ago, what should I do?

Hey Liam, thanks for reaching out for help on the forums. I understand it's frustrating to go through this multiple times. Sorry you're dealing with this!

Today, there have been several posts of issues with gamertag and profile picture changes, so it might be a site problem. I’d recommend waiting a bit and then trying again on a different device to see if that helps.

Well how do i get a Gamertag name change if i don't own a xbox? The only way to change a Gamertag so far as i know is by changing the Gamertag on the Xbox, but i can't do that as i don't own one.

And i didn't see your answer, because i was busy writing the second part of my issue on the other account, to prove i own both accounts.

So you said I can change my classic gamertag. How do I change that after already changing my gamertag or do I have to change my entire gamertag again to change the classic one?

But if you had been given a random.gamertag

Since you have.a custom. Gamertag. Already you don't qualify

Hi. My name is Mel and I am an independent advisor. Because you already have a custom gamertag it means u have to pay to change it. You could try xbox support and see if they will let u change it free of charge but they will likely say the same thing. Have a lovely day.
