How do I change my given gamer tag

How do you change your gamer tag here I hate my gamer tag they chose it for me

i have just had a gamer tag forced on me that i dont want and that i personally feel is offence why should i be given a gamer tag i feel is offence and have to pay to have it changed when the reason it was changed is because someone was offended why have
i no be given a free gamer tag change why am i being forced to pay for a new one!

Welcome to the Microsoft Community forums.

I am going to move this thread into the Xbox forums, rather then the Community Participation Centre. This is where this question best fits.

To change your gamertag on the Xbox One, please: Press the guide button > Select gamerpic > My Profile > Customize profile > Choose Gamertag

This will allow you to change your gamertag though the console.

To change your gamertag online, please visit this link: https://social.xbox.com/changegamertag

To change your gamertag on Windows 10, please: Go to the Xbox Companion App > Select your gamerpic from the top left hand corner > Customize > Change gamertag

This will allow you to change it though the app. Please make sure your gamertag is compliant with the Xbox Code of Conduct and Terms of Use. You may also need to pay for a name change which will vary with each region and local.

Simply go to https://social.xbox.com/ChangeGamertag and sign in with your Microsoft Account that you wish to change the Gamertag from.

Then enter your desired Gamertag. If the Gamertag is still available it will be changed to your new Gamertag.

Beware, that the new Gamertag system only allows Gamertags with a maximum length of 12 characters, and it will append a number to the tag. Like "Gamertag#1234"

Alternatively, on your Xbox One console, press the Xbox button on the controller, go to your profile picture and show your own profile.

There you can then change your profile including the Gamertag.

And you can also use the Xbox App on your Smartphone or Windows 10 PC to change your Gamertag.

Beware however, that changing your Gamertag costs money if you already used your one time free Gamertag change!
