How do I change an account to adult when there is no other accounts in the family?

If your birthdate is setup correctly you can simply sign in to https://account.xbox.com/settings and from there make sure that these settings are set to “allow” or “everyone”:

* You can see and upload community creations

* You can communicate outside of Xbox Live with voice & text

* Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites

* You can play with people outside of Xbox Live

* You can create and join clubs

* You can join multiplayer games

Make sure to hit “submit” when you made any changes.

When you say you changed your account into an adult through your dads account?

Do you mean you changed the date of birth?

Changed the privacy settings to adult on the console?

Removed yourself from the family?

What exactly do you mean that you changed yourself to an adult.

First until the date of birth when the account originally was setup reaches 18 your account needs to be in a family as a child account. If it is not your account would be considered as orphaned and not be able to do anything including signing into the account
anywhere till its added back as a child under an adult account.

There are restrictions on child accounts until they become adult accounts like making a custom profile picture.

There is no other way to leave the family or change any of the settings than through adults in your family. The best thing to do is ask for a new password on the account that has adult permissions in the family and change your screen time

I have set up a family account and my account is registered as an adult so I'm not sure why it won't let me change the settings, or even get to the page? how can I fix this?

How did you "register" your account as an adult?

The "adultness" of an account is determined by the birthdate you entered when you created your account, and that birthdate can't be changed.

If according to that birthdate, your account is not yet of legal adult age, you will need a parent account to make the changes for your account.

So a real adult parent account has to go to
https://account.microsoft.com/family and add your account you wish to play Sea of Thieves with to the family.

Then the adult account has to go to
https://account.xbox.com/settings and select your account.

Then the adult account can make the necessary changes on your account. Just beware that you save the settings before you switch the "tabs" on the page (at the top the sections "Xbox One/Windows 10", "Xbox 360" and "Online and Privacy").

Also, after these changes were made, your account might have to sign out and back in on the device you're using.
