How do I apply Minecoins gift card to my son's Minecraft profile rather than my own main...

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I understand that your son has a Minecoins gift card. Microsoft Child Accounts for children under 9 years of age are not allowed to redeem codes for promotional items or in-game downloadable content as a safety feature. To change this setting, have the family organizer follow the steps below on either the Xbox Family Settings app or an internet browser.

Note: Minecraft uses Microsoft account and Xbox features to enable parental controls. You can use the Xbox website and app to manage access to Minecraft features even if you do not own an Xbox.

Enable code redemption using the Microsoft Family Safety website:

Visit the Microsoft Family Safety homepage.

Sign in using the family organizer’s Microsoft account.

Click on the tile for the child account you want to manage. 

Click on Settings in the upper right-hand corner.

Select the dropdown under Age Rating and set it to age 10 or older.

Select Done.

Enable code redemption using the Xbox Family Settings app:

Open the Xbox Family Settings App.

Sign in using the family organizer’s Microsoft account.

Tap on the tile of the child account you want to manage.

Click on Content Restrictions.

Click Allow content suitable for and select Age 10 or older.

Once done, your son should be able to redeem it through this link using his own Microsoft account.

with all due respect, I did not make a one-time purchase. I purchased three separate gift cards. each gift card is $19.99 and is good for 3500 Minecoins. Each gift card was rung up by the Target cashier separately and each gift card has it's own distinct "Download Code." again, we've done this multiple times in the past: i.e. bought separate Minecoin gift cards, each of the same value and Minecoin denomination and redeemed each gift card on my son's Microsoft/Xbox account. each time we redeem a gift card, I can go to our Order History and see each card and see each Minecoin amount as well as log into his Minecraft account to show all Minecoins redeemed. so again, with all due respect, these are not one-time purchases. I've seen others on this forum who've had the same issue.

If I may ask, are you unable to find the Minecoins gift card from the Rewards Store, is that correct?

if yes, the Minecoin gift card may be currently out of stock. Microsoft Rewards adds and removes offers on the website depending on availability. But don't worry, the Minecoin gift card will be restocked again after some time.

Hi Michael,

I had assumed that as I manage his xbox account through my own account and this is where and how I add funds ( to often may I add ) to his account. I would simply do the same expect this time from My microsoft balance. It looks like that was wrong, and
now I see I should of entered the email address linked to his xbox account rather that the main family one. Now its stuck in my account and can not be reloaded on to the gift card so I can reverse the error and instead redeem it on his account.

I thought I had solved it, by thinking I could buy another gift card and then redeem it in the correct account, however microsoft will not permit me to purchase a gift card using any balance in my microsoft account !!

Looks like i'm stuck with it and now owe my son money too !!!!

Unfortunately, Minecoin gift cards are specific to the version of Minecraft Bedrock Edition on the Microsoft platform, and cannot be redeemed or used on the PlayStation 4/5 version of Minecraft.

Minecoin gift cards can only be redeemed on the Microsoft account associated with the Bedrock Edition version of Minecraft on devices such as Xbox, Windows 10, mobile devices, and some Nintendo Switch consoles. They are not compatible with the PlayStation version of Minecraft.
