    How do I allow a child in a Microsoft family group to add online friends when I have no...


    We are trying to allow my child to add friends to play Minecraft realms with but constantly get the message "you cannot play online multiplayer because of how your microsoft account is set up" we have tried to follow instructions in other threads, but had to download the new Xbox app instead of using the website they all mentioned. The app does not seem to allow me to access privacy settings to allow online multiplayer gaming. Does anybody have a clue how to access multiplayer options please?

    Is this on a console or on a PC? If it is on a console, then you need a subscription to Xbox Live in order to play multiplayer games (unless they are one of the few free-to-play games).

    Hi HomegrownSilky, thanks for your reply. This is on Nintendo Switch. They were able to play online on other people's, and public, servers in the past, but can't play online at all now. We have a Nintendo online account that still has 7 months left on it, but trying to find friends online is blocked with the above message displayed. Any ideas or suggestions would be very greatly appreciated, many thanks.

    Did you add the child's account to the family group as on this page?

    Also, make sure you're logged into the adult account that has that child account under it, to change these settings.
