How do I add my son to my xbox one when he already has an account on his mother's family group.

Is there no way for my sons' accounts to be linked to my xbox, retaining their profile settings?

I was wondering if they could be added as users without being part of my family group..

Or if my ex-wife's suggestion of leaving my partially formed family group to join there's and then place my xbox in that group (might I lose any purchases)

Or would it be best to create new email accounts for them, to add to my family group? This would mean that they can't track progress across thel different devices.

Or is there anything else that I could do?

The only solution would be one that you mention there, which is that if someone is already part of a family group, they must leave it or remove themselves from that group before joining another group. You can also create a new Microsoft account to associate with a new family group.

It is my account that has the credit, and my son's account that I want it to go to. He is already in my family group on Microsoft Families.

And I cannot place money in his account. We have checked the permissions and all is set correctly.

Because the original account is now your eldest son's account. Technically he has to consent all the changes on the family settings.

I think, you and your youngest son should be removed from the family group first (the one that you share with your eldest son). He might have to do it, as he has the parental control.

Then sign in your xbox, and create a new family group for you and your youngest son.

Create a child account and add family members on Xbox One
