How can one possibly win this ?

Used games from gamestop etc. aren't that much cheaper that new copies. They buy your game for about 20% of new price then sell it for a few bucks less than new (used new releases around me sell for about $5 less than new even games with online pass). I
agree they should of tried working out a deal with used game retailers prior to the reveal, now gamestop has all the power in the matter, they know m$ is facing backlash and they could just refuse to sell the xbone while pushing ps4, microsoft could never
recover if gamestop and other used game retailers turn their back on them.

My biggest issue is the loss of the old games (that aren't AAA titles) disappearing from market, some of my favorite games are ones I picked up out of a used bin that I had never heard of. I'm afraid there plans will end this ability to give lesser known
games a try for cheap, you may be able to get them online but theres something about going into a store and browsing for something you never knew existed that digital just cant replicate. You need a thriving second hand market to succed if people can't find
lesser known titles for a deal they lose that impulse buy consumer who doesn't mind taking a chance for $10-20 on a game they never heard of. In the end lesser known developers lose out money that ends up going to companies like ea and activision because they
will have greater control over what we buy.

Yeah I guess that would be an issue for the shareholders. 90% is just a number I pulled out of the air though. It only seemed fair to me though since the developers make the majority on new game sales. Just let gamestop get the majority on used games and
give the developers a little cut on the resell also. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about stocks and shareholders to understand how it would affect that system.

Shops have to sell used games because Publishers are asking for higher prices for their games from shops so crushing those profit margins and forcing the shops to find other sources such as used games.

Develoers rarely see extra cash from games in reality it goes to the publishers. Developers only see this cash in the form of further games being taken up by the publisher / further deals. Essentially Developers don't see this benefit in any way other than
returning work because their game was seen to have sold well enough.

The perception of used games sales hurting the developer is kind of fake as they've already been paid and other than a few instances where sales give the developer bonuses.

Listen.. here's the answer. If you want to ban used sales, I will go along.. IF you at the same time cut the price of new games by 30%. Here's why: because if you can only buy a game new, then games don't have to compete with used versions of themselves
on the shelves at the same time, so they should make a better margin. If developers want that kind of protection, fine.. promise me the highest price game will be $35, and I'll go along.
