    How can I run vstest.console.exe in 32-bit mode using Visual Studio 2022?


    I’m working on a .NET solution that depends on a 32-bit native DLL. Due to this dependency, I need the test host process to run in 32-bit mode to avoid runtime issues.

    However, I'm facing the following challenges:

    • I'm using Visual Studio 2022, which installs vstest.console.exe in Program Files (64-bit) only.
    • The vstest.console.exe version installed (v17.12.0) is 64-bit and does not accept the --x86 flag.
    • My solution and test projects are configured to target x86, and I’m passing in the .runsettings file — but the test host still launches as a 64-bit process.
    • I can't use Visual Studio 2019 because we're using Central Package Management (CPM), which is only supported in VS2022 and above.
    My question:

    Is there any supported way to:

    1. Install or obtain a 32-bit version of vstest.console.exe for use with Visual Studio 2022?
    2. Force vstest.console.exe in VS2022 to launch the test host in 32-bit mode (when the --x86 flag is not supported)?
    3. Work around this limitation without reverting to an older VS version?
    Any official guidance or workarounds would be appreciated.

    Alright, so did you have this installed before, or is this the first time you have installed Zune? Also, have you tried running it in Safe Mode, or "Run as Administrator"? I would also suggest trying to run Zune in "Compatibility Mode". NOTE: DO THIS BEFORE
    YOU INSTALL ZUNE. Here is how to setup compatibility mode. Right-click on the app, clicking properties, choosing the compatibility tab, and then choosing "Run this program in compatibility mode". Then just choose your OS, and hit Apply, then OK. Then proceed
    to install Zune.

    Note, the minimum specs for Zune:

    • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
    • 1 gigabyte (GB) of RAM for a 32-bit system or 2 GB of RAM for a 64-bit system
    • Broadband Internet connection

    With latest October 2018 update on Xbox console, remote debugging using Visual studio is failing with Error DEP6957.

    Hi,

    I was able to do remote debugging using visual studio 2017. This issue of remote debugging failure is seen only in 2015 visual studio.

    So I migrated from visual studio 2015 to visual studio 2017, which solved the issue.
