how can i redeem points for xbox games or gear

Once Rewards credits are deposited into your account, they are added as currency in your Microsoft account balance. When you make purchases on Live, you would choose that as your payment option. Credits are deposited by the following 15th or 30th of the
month after you have at least 5,000 pending. It is not possible to use the currency in your account to purchase subscriptions.

Same issue for me. I have been able to redeem codes for Gears of War 3 and Gears of War Judgement, but haven't been able to redeem Gears of War 1 and Gears of War 3. I also tried in microsoft.com/redeem with my Xbox associated account and didn't work either.

Could someone advise on how to proceed further?

Yes the codes work, I just redeemed a code last week for a new and sealed Gears of War 4 game and they were working.

You can buy the game without fear, but I suggest you redeem it before the Xbox 360 store closes.

Sorry to hear about the internet woes. If your copy of Gears of War 4 is a disc copy, the codes for your legacy Gears of War collection should have been included in the game box. If you did not receive them, you will need to return to the retailer for further
assistance. If you redeemed a code for a digital copy of Gears of War 4, it had to be redeemed by December 31, 2016. For future reference, codes can be redeemed via Xbox.com and the Xbox app on smartphones as well as through a console.
