How can I get my original Microsoft account associated with my new email?

I cannot access my Microsoft account because the password is 20+ years old and the email associated with it does not exist anymore. I had to create another account to ask this question. I just made the mistake of allowing Xbox One to update, and now it's demanding that I manually enter my original password associated with my Roadrunner email from the 1990s-early 2000s. It always logged-in automatically before. Microsoft seems to go to great lengths to prevent anyone from contacting tech support: if a question can't be answered with a pre-written response from a chatbot, they won't answer it. Anyone know how I can recover that ancient password so I can actually use my Xbox One again?

This is the best way for you to speak with a live person and be able to have a factual exchange about your situation. I can completely empathize with your frustrations! They should be able to help get you logged in and update the login details, including your login credentials like your old email.

Your account's email address (alias) can be changed by following these steps:

Go to account.microsoft.com

Select 'Your Info' and then 'Edit account info'.

From here, you should be able to add a new email as an alias, set that email as the primary alias, then remove the previous email if you wish.

Thank you. However, that link puts me through the same series of questions that resulted in the message "live chat isn't available for this issue" and railroaded me to the Virtual Assistant the first time around (and the Virtual Assistant says "I didn't understand that" to every question I ask). I managed to "brute-force" my own password by going through every password I can ever remember using. I got the XB1 to finish updating, but still no luck changing the email on the account (the only clickable option under Security is "looks good").

You would need access to the previously associated email to make significant account changes. This is why it is so important to keep important accounts up to date with contact information.

You can change the email associated with your Origin account, but you need to have access to it first, so if you don't know how to access to EA Origin and you also can't access the email associated with it it would be harder to do so.

First try to gain access to Origin, if you can do it, you can create a new Microsoft Account and associate your Origin account to it.
