How can I get minecraft on Xbox one to allow my son to interact with his friends

Sign in to the parent account then press the Xbox button to open the guide.

Select Profile & System> Settings > Account > Family settings.

Select Manage family members and choose a child account.

Select Privacy & Online safety > Xbox privacy > View details & customize > Buy & download.

Select On in the Ask a Parent box.

Just to confirm what you wrote:

Your son WAS ABLE to play with THESE SAME friends through his Playstation 4 version of Minecraft?

If so, then those friends certainly have the "new" Bedrock Version of Minecraft.

In that case, check that your son is in fact playing "Minecraft" on the Xbox One (the Minecraft WITHOUT the "Xbox One Version" in the name)

It can also be possible that your son joined the Xbox Insiders Program and is playing a newer Beta version of Minecraft, that his friends don't have.

So when your son and his friends start Minecraft, they should check the Version number of the game shown on the title screen.

I am having the same issue and when going to the settings on the family account, there is no option to change any settings allowing my son to add friends on Minecraft on his switch. I can set screen time restrictions, content restrictions, etc. But nothing
for allowing him to add friends on applictions.
