    How can I fix our Family Safety accounts?


    I have previously set up Microsoft Family to help manage our kid's computer usage, with only occasional need to take actions; mainly adjusting a permission. Our family has myself, my wife as , and our two children. I don't think my wife had ever actually accessed the Family management system; I have done all management.

    I used to get weekly activity reports for both children. I had noticed a while back that I stopped receiving the reports for child #2, although I hadn't really worried about it. However, I have found now that our accounts seem fundamentally broken, and I don't know how to fix them.

    It seems our family account got split into two:

    • Myself as organizer with Child #1
    • My wife as organizer with Child #2

    I have tried re-inviting my wife and Child #2, but they cannot join because they are already in a family group.

    I have tried disbanding the family groups so I can remake them, but this fails.

    • When signed in as either organizer, I cannot remove the child. I get a message that "Only the adult that granted consent for Shaun can remove this family member." (I'm pretty sure I'm the one granted consent for both.)
    • When signed is as either organizer, I cannot leave the family group. The error simply says "We’re having trouble and can’t remove Michael from your family group right now." (I presume the only organizer cannot leave a group with other members in it.)
    • Obviously, the children cannot choose to leave their family groups.

    Hello, in order for you to fix this issue you need first to check if you have a child or an adult account. First go to your account information and check if you have an adult date of birth or a minor date of birth. If it is an adult one then you can just go through the steps for adult accounts on this link Manage Xbox online safety and privacy settings | Xbox Support and your issue should be resolved.

    If you have a minor account, please try to add it first as a child to a microsoft family, with an adult account set up as the parent; Here is how you can do that Create a child account and add family members on Xbox | Xbox Support.     Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. Is the account you are using a child account? Child accounts need to be tied to an adult account through a family in order to have their privacy and online safety settings changed. The way to establish
    a family is have an adult account sign in to the
    Microsoft family website    , and add the child account to the adult account's family. The Xbox Settings portion of our website has a section called

    Privacy & Online Safety     where privacy settings can be adjusted. Be sure to let us know the results!
