How can I fix a chat mixer greyout?

Based on your description, your daughter is trying to do chat mixer using the headset however, the option to use chat mixer is greyed out. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner for you to get back to gaming.

It could be the console needs power cycle or else the headset here is faulty. Let us isolate the issue, please answer our questions below:

1. May we confirm if you are referring to this headset - Xbox Wireless Headset | Xbox?
   
2. If yes, may we confirm if you have tried power cycle on Xbox Series S? Please follow the steps below:
   
   • Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.
     
   • Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds. You may include other cables connected to the console too.
     
     Important Be sure to wait at least 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.
     
   • Plug the console power cable back in.
     
   • Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on.

3. Can you try connecting the headset on another Xbox Console? Will issue persist?
   
4. Is the headset under warranty? You may add the headset on your daughter's Microsoft account (click here) and see if warranty is still valid.
   
5. What is the status of Xbox Network in your daughter's Xbox Console? Please follow the steps below and take a screenshot:
   
   • Kindly go to Xbox Console's Settings.
     
   • Select Network and Network Settings.
     
   • Look for NAT Type.

It may be a headset issue. To further isolate it, please try to use a different headset or you could try a different controller instead.

Alternatively, try to perform a factory reset on your console.
Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.
Select Reset console.
On the Reset your console? Please choose “Reset and keep my games & apps”

You can try re-associating your controller with your profile. To do this, follow the steps below:

Press the Xbox button to open the guide and go to Profile & system .

Select Add or switch and select your profile.

Also, to adjust the chat mixer settings, follow the steps below:

Press the Xbox button to open the guide and select Profile & system > Settings > General > Volume & audio output .

Select Additional options > Chat mixer and choose one of the options.

1. Check your controller settings: Make sure Headset Chat Mixer is not set to "off" in your audio settings.

2. Check your headset: Make sure your headset is properly connected to your controller and that the volume is turned up.

3. Check your Xbox Live account: If you are signed in to Xbox Live, make sure your account is not set to "child" or "teen" mode, as this may limit certain features.

4. Check your network connection: If your network connection is weak or unstable, this may cause issues with Headset Chat Mixer. Try resetting your router or modem, or connecting your Xbox directly to your modem with an Ethernet cable.
