I understand you wanted your child to purchase a Game Pass. By default, a child's account is set to require an adult's approval before a child can make a purchase through their account. If you choose to turn to Ask to buy off, your son can make purchases without an adult’s approval. To turn this feature off, follow these steps:

1. Sign in to your Family page with an adult Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/family/home.

2. Find the child's name and select the Spending tab. (If he's not on your Family Group, kindly add his account as a MEMBER).

3. Under the Spending page, switch "Require approval for every purchase" to Off. It should be like the screenshot below.

It would be a good idea to setup child accounts for each child you have, and if you already have game pass ultimate, then using the account that has it then make the console the home Xbox, and everyone that uses the console will have access to it.

Hudson, does the child account has an organizer/ adult account linked already?

Because the organizer will be the one that'll allow the child to be able to complete purchases on the account.

If you do not want to add a card on the child account, you can add a gift card/Microsoft money that can be use by the child to prevent unauthorized purchases.
