How can fix having two different gamertags?

I have two gamertags. When I’m in game it shows one gamertag, but in the dashboard it shows another, older gamertag. I assume this happened because I changed my tag from an Xbox website once instead of on console, I don’t know. I’d like to merge the two or just change it to one name, because it gets confusing for other players when I post in L4G and there’s a different name in game.

Based on your description, you saw two gamertags when you try to play and on looking for group. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner.

Making sure you are signed into one credentials, let us confirm if your gamertag is the same on both Xbox account and Xbox Console. If the change or update of Gamertag was made recently, we recommend you to check your current Gamertag through this website: account.Xbox.com

Then, try to powercycle your Xbox and see if your Gamertag gets updated both on your looking for group and game. Guide: How to restart or power cycle your Xbox console | Xbox Support.

Please update us on how it went. If you see any error message or code let us know so we can check on it. Please post it and conceal any personal information.

Could two system linked consoles, show two gamertags on the one console etc..?? Seeing how the two gamertags, are playing different games at once...

Ah, also the gamertag I use on the Xbox IS connected to a different email to the one connected to my Microsoft account, so how can I delete the first one and have my second gamertag as my primary one, as obv the system just recognises two different people?
