Holding down the power button for more than 10 seconds reset my console to scratch.

If you had already done this in the past and the same thing did not happen, it is possible that this time there was a failure in the system that caused this problem. Since if you restart your console as you mention there should be no problem. Let's hope that if you do it in the future this will not happen again.

Hopefully another member of the community can provide you with better help or a better answer to clarify what really happened.

That's incorrect.

All I was simply trying to do was fully shutdown my Xbox like I had done in the past so the fan would stop spinning and so it would stop using valuable electricity before going to bed.

Never has it wiped my account off the console or set the location and date and time from the UK to the USA before.

It's working fine now and I've reverted it back to how it was before.

No games were deleted (luckily).

Just interested to know why it did this to avoid doing it again.

Try connecting you console on different power plug.

Try hard reset by holding power button for 10 seconds, releasing it after console shut down.

Disconnect the power cable and wait for more 10 seconds, then turn the console ON by reconnecting the power cable.

Try Hard Reset:

1. Hold the power button down on the console for 10 seconds while the console is on
2. Release the power button after 10 seconds
3. Press the power button as normal to turn the console back on
