First you can try to
Power Cycle your console, if doesnt fix try to uninstall and install again the game.

Did all of that and still this morning would not open. Finally have uninstalled, and am reinstalling, but afraid that I'll lose all friends, inventory, etc. If so, bye, bye.

perhaps there was a windows update that happened? have to tried restarting your PC again?

Is it maybe not still lingering in your task manager? you can open that, and attempt to end the task, and retry
