if you're not already directly dealing with Microsoft, you need to find a local middleman distributor who is authorized to do so.

I would review with the retailer it was purchased from.
The Xbox One Warranty, which covers details of accessories, specifically under "Definitions" states that it must be from an authorized retailer. Verify where you purchased it is an authorized retailer, and if not, I would work with them for additional
coverage or returns. If they are an authorized retailer, then they should ensure that they sold you a new product, if they so stated.

It's not an authorized product and using it violates the Code of Conduct. With the new changes coming to xbox platform like the mouse and keyboard support, this unauthorized product becomes futile.

Those are going to be the list of the larger retailers. There may be game stores that are more local in your area that are authorized resellers that won't be on the list. An authorized reseller would get their products directly from Microsoft. If you buy an illegitimate code through an unauthorized reseller, you can be banned.
