Try contacting epic games support they might know a few things you could try that could fix the problem just in case its something to do with the fortnite account

Hello emmalennon,

You would need to contact epic games for that problem but if you log on to epic games through the xbox option on either internet explorer, Microsoft edge, and chrome and see there is an xbox account linked and it not your id suggest that you unlink it and
log in the account you want to log in.

So he's able to log into his Microsoft Account on the console, but when he gets into the game, he can't log into his Epic Account? Is that account able to log in at epicgames.com with his account?

There doesn't seem to be any outage system wide at Epic, so I'm thinking there might be an issue with his Epic Account.
