if you feel like you are being harassed please report and block the person, harassment of race gender or sexuality isn't welcome on xbox or anywhere at all as xbox wants everyone to feel welcome

My wife and daughter both play, but keep their gender to themselves to avoid being harassed.

“Online video games can be a toxic environment for women. A survey assessed women’s (N = 293) experiences with general harassment and sexual harassment in online video games, including frequency of harassment, rumination about
the harassment, perceptions of organizational responsiveness (i.e. efforts the gaming company made to address harassment), and withdrawal from the game. Women reported coping strategies to mitigate harassment, including gender bending or gender neutralization
through screen name or avatar choice, avoiding communication with other players, and seeking help or social support inside and outside the game. Both general and sexual harassment predict women’s withdrawal from online games. Sexual harassment, but not general

Unfortunately that is simply not true. You are a player just as I am. I have seen many women abused and disempowered online just as I’ve seen men.

The academic work being done and articles being written are highlighting more and more with each article published the toxic environment that has evolved in the community, and each of us that is a part of it can either seek to make it better or not.
