It should be added to your account by now. Please sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders then check if you can see the redemption transaction from there stated as "completed" or "redeemed". Once confirmed, remove and re-add your account and then try downloading the game again.

"REMOVE ACCOUNT​​​

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide. ​​​

2. Select System > Settings > Account > Remove accounts. ​​​

3. Select the account that you want to remove, and then select Remove to confirm. ​​​

4. When you're finished, select Close. ​​​

1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off. ​​​

5. Follow the steps to configure your Sign-In & Security preferences to add your Microsoft account to your Xbox console.​​​"

Once you redeem it, it would.be in your library

It doesn't matter if you cancel it during download it will be in your download library

It may happen that you cancel an update and that the game is removed (or you have accidentally removed it). If you can't find it in the "your games" section, you can still search for the game on the store and download it again.
