Hey folks. Got this right after an update... Should I reset the xbox with pairing and eject...

After yesterday's update on my Xbox I ended up in an endless black screen of death. Tried all the eject-pair without getting any result. I tried holding eject-pair first and THEN turn on the xbox! And finally the reset to factory settings came around!

You can try to factory reset your console without using the USB flash drive:

- Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off. Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.

- Press and hold the Pair button (located on the left side of the console) and the Eject button (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox button on the console (the Xbox Series S and the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition do not have Eject buttons. Just hold only the Pair button nd then pressing the Xbox button).

- Continue holding the Pair and Eject buttons for 10-15 seconds. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the Pair and Eject buttons after the second power-up tone.

- The console should power up and take you directly to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter. Select "Reset this Xbox" > Reset and keep games and apps.

See if this helps. If the issue persists, you would need to take the offline system update route.

Reset your console with the Xbox troubleshooter
Hold the Pair and the Eject buttons on your console. Then press the Xbox button. If you have an Xbox S, press and hold the Pair button and then press the Xbox button.
After 15 seconds, you should hear the second power-on sound. This indicates that the Pair and Eject buttons can be released.
The Fix Xbox startup problems options should now be visible on the screen.
Use the troubleshooter to reset the console.

Once this is done, sign out of your account and restart the Xbox console. Then log in again and check if the E102 error is still there.

- Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.

- Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.

- Press and hold the Pair button (located on the left side of the console) and the Eject button (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox button on the console.

- Continue holding the Pair and Eject buttons for 10-15 seconds.

- Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the Pair and Eject buttons after the second power-up tone.

- The console should power up and take you directly to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.

If your console doesn't have an Eject button, you can bring up the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter on this console by holding only the Pair button (steps 3 & 4) and then pressing the Xbox button. Continue holding the Pair and Eject buttons for 10-15 seconds.

- Once you see the Startup Troubleshooter, select Factory Reset and then choose "Keep Games and Apps"

- Once the Reset is complete, you'll be prompted to sign into your console using your Microsoft account credentials, after which you'll choose your preferred settings and your console should display normally again.

NB: A factory reset keeping games and apps will not delete your game saves as they are backed up in the cloud and will resync once you've signed in.

You can reset the console to factory defaults via the troubleshoot menu.

This will start up your console in low resolution mode (640 × 480).

Before you continue, make sure you've got the account sign-in information. You'll need it to log back into your console after the reset.

With the console turned off, press and hold the Eject Button and the Pair Button on the console, then, press the Xbox Power Button to turn on the console.

Keep pressing the Eject and Pair Button until you hear a second Beep, then release them.

Your console should be booted into the Troubleshoot menu.

Turn on your controller and select Reset this Xbox > Select Reset and keep my games & apps.

If you are using an all-digital console (Xbox Series S or Xbox One S) you just need to press the Pair button, as there is no Eject button on them.
