Help: Your receiver doesn't support Dolby Atmos for home theater

I have an Xbox Series X plugged straight into a Denon AVR-X8500H (which DOES have atmos, and
is working properly with other devices with Atmos).

Settings -> General -> Volume & audio output -> Speaker audio -> Bitstream format -> "Dolby Atmos for home theater"

    I receive this error:

"Your receiver doesn't support Dolby Atmos for home theater. Your audio receiver must support Dolby Atmos for home theater to use this setting. Check your manufacturer's instructions for more info. (0x80bd0038)"

When I first set the Xbox up, I chose this setting and I got this message, and something about installing the Dolby Access app. I did that. Then, I turned on Dolby Atmos, and
    IT WORKED.

Later, I turned the Xbox off. And now Dolby Atmos is turned off, and I receive that error message every time I try to turn it back on. I cannot find anything to do in that Dolby Access app to turn it back on. Restarting the Xbox does not
help. I can choose bitstream to DTS Digital or Dolby Digital, but not for Atmos or DTS:X.

On that Dolby Access app, there are options at the top of the screen. Choose "Products". Then, there are three icons, the one in the middle is for "Dolby Atmos for home theater". From there, I chose "Setup". Then I got this message:

"Dolby Atmos for home theater was not configured. Confirm that your TV, Sound bar or Home Theater supports Dolby Atmos. Select "Go to settings" to configure your Xbox for Dolby Atmos."

I did that, went back to the settings, and I get the same error message.

    Any ideas?

    :)

    Atmos only outputs Multichannel

So after following up with the Dolby Access support team, apparently games aren't supported on home theater, only on headphones:

"Unfortunately, Games encoded with Dolby Atmos audio are not compatible with Dolby Atmos for Home Theater, as they are specifically configured for Dolby Atmos for Headphones. If the content you are experiencing is not compatible with the app you are
using, then audio will cease, or will simply output as regular stereo output.

To clarify, Dolby Atmos for Home Theater is included at no charge with any Dolby Atmos supported hardware, such as a receiver or Xbox One X, and is used to activate Dolby Atmos features via HDMI connection for a Dolby Atmos certified AVR, soundbar,
    or TV."

"Unfortunately, the version of Dolby Atmos included with your Xbox is Dolby Atmos for Home Theater, which is not compliant with any gaming content."

It kind of strikes me as hard to believe, or that this won't be addressed, but that's what they're saying for now. That said, it still isn't working for me for Netflix content either, so I'm going continue troubleshooting with them and see what's doable
    and what's not. Fingers crossed.

Help: Your receiver doesn't support Dolby Atmos for home theater

I have a similar issue but instead of the problem being with Dolby Armos its with DTSX .

i have an LG C9 and a Yamaha RX-A3070 , the AVR supports both Atmos and DtsX when the xbox is plugged direcly into the Amp and then video passed onto the C9 but to take advantage of VRR ALLM etc i have the xbox plugged into the tv and use eARC to send the
audio back to my AVR .

I can select Atmos on the Xbox and all is fine ( Avr shows Atmos/pcm )

when i try and select DtsX i get the error message saying your reciever doesnt support DtsX when i know it does

    frusting 😳

Im sure alot has to do with the implimentation of eARC , if your AVR doesnt support hdmi 2.1 but has eARC like my Yamaha Reciever does it doesnt play nice with the LG Oled unfortunately .

And you also lose the ability to have 120hz support .

There is also a issue with VRR on the LG that is currently being talked about on Audio / Video forums that doesnt look like being fixed either .

Most new 2020 AVR’s also dont have the correct Hdmi 2.1 chip installed that is a major headache.

i have a Thenaudio Zone 2 processer coming in the next week that i hope may help with my connection issues ( fingers crossed )

    Thank you.

This reminded me, that I was experimenting with going straight to the TV vs. Receiver. I must have had the "success" with Atmos while I was directly to the TV.

So, going straight to an LG CX, and using eARC back to the Denon AVR-X8500H fixes this and I can use Dolby Atmos. Coincidentally, this also fixes the issue with not being able to use VRR. But is a PIA to have to use eARC..

I still don't understand why this doesn't work, as I tested 3 separate devices, which passed 4K with HDR with Dolby Atmos perfectly fine to this receiver.

FYI: I have the same error with DTS:X with this workaround... weird
