HELP !!! Series X disc drive not reading anything

Since it was summer and we have been enjoying the outdoors, my daughter and I have only been playing only digital games for the last few months. I got hit with a sickness, and being stuck at home I've been bored and I got the urge to play RDR2, so grabbed the game disc and popped it in...I hear it spinning up but nothing happens. I grabbed Dead Island 2, same scenario, and btw not a scratch on any disc I tried including some 4k blurays. Last week went purchased a Maxwell DVD cleaning disc, which also just spun up and then stopped.

Extended Warranty expired in May. Has anyone else here had a similar problem and other than not playing games for 4 weeks while Microsoft repairs my system, any suggestions would be stellar?

It actually does. I got the Series X this holiday at $349, and the same disc is working perfectly. I have determined that the Xbox One X disc drive is trying to read Cross Gen discs differently than Xbox One discs. The disc drive on the Series X doesn’t have this issue. You might need a new disc or you might need to send your Series X for maintenance.

Gonna try but don't think it's gonna work, because my last series x was doing the same thing and I did that and did not fix anything! I'm really disappointed by that console, it's supposed to be the best one but it's always broken ! I'm having the same problem with 2 series x and on top of that my disc drive stop working, cannot read disc anymore! That's a shame ! Never had that much problems with a console!

Is it just this one game or do other Xbox 360 discs have issues?

The Series X optical drive contains two lasers, one for reading DVD discs and one for reading Blu-Ray discs.

Have you also tried DVD movie discs to see if they play? They must be DVD discs, not HD or UHD BD discs.

Unfortunately if the drive has a fault reading discs, you'll need to get it repaired. If your console is out of warranty it will be at a cost.

The same thing has happened to me today directly after installing a system update. Everything played fine before, i went to play mw3 and as soon as i logged into xbox live it told me that there was a system update that i had to install. As soon as it had
installed i tried to play mw3 and it does exactly the same thing you described. I have tried every one of my games (about 20) and the same thing but it plays dvds and cds fine. I read something about this last year about updates to prevent piracy causing problems
with a minority of consoles. I will be chasing it up tomorrow as im sure as hell not paying to repair it as it clearly still reads discs it is just choosing not to recognise games.

As an added bonus it would appear that my console is now freezing on the dashboard after a few minutes of inactivity
