Help my xbox keeps "overheating"!!

even though you aren't getting the overheating warning, it could be the problem.

Make sure all vent holes are clear, that air is free to circulate. Keep your xbox on a solid surface and not something like carpet. If you have it shut in a cabinet, open the doors while you game.

You can get fans which attach to the xbox to 'cool' it. These aren't recommended - they use more power, so can actually make the xbox hotter.

Also don't open up the xbox to clean it, this will bith void your warranty and is against the Terms of Use, meaning you could wind up with a ban.

You could always try to carefully use the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner to draw accumulated dust from the vent holes on your Xbox. This is something I do periodically with my PC, Xbox and some other electrical kit. Flowing current does tend to make dust motes
stick and bunch up inside electrical equipment cases which can then seriously hamper the cooling airflow.

I wouldn't recommend dismantling anything though, although it might be required if you have lots of heat trouble, you can do more harm than good, not to mention invalidating warranties!

There are a number of steps you can take to improve the ventilation of the console.

• first check that the console is in the best location for good ventilation
• then let it cool down for a few hours before firing it back up again
• if neither of these help then it's probably best to request a repair.

Bare in mind that if you open the console (which is not a good thing) if you mess something up, or something just doesn't work and you request an out of warranty console Microsoft will refuse to repair it since it has been opened. So in those terms you'd
have to purchase a new console, if you wanted to keep this console it would be a $99 service charge to get the console repaired.
