HELP: Can’t enable 120hz and variable refresh rate at the same time on xbox one x?

So after extensive research about a good monitor to use with an xbox one x i made my decision on the asus vg258q as it was what best fit my ideal requirements for my xbox one x. freesync, 1080, and 120hz over hdmi (and some other things that aren’t relevant to the post). after getting it in and plugging it in i immediately received and pop up telling me advanced display settings were available. after enabling it i noticed “Allow variable refresh rate” was checked. i thought to myself okay great but now how do i enable 120hz. after messing around with my setting i realized the drop down box to enable 120hz below the resolution box was no where to be found. after a little bit more messing around i switch my display by overriding it from auto-detect to hdmi. after doing that the 120hz option drop down box was there and i set it to 120hz. but then i went back to make sure variable refresh rate was still on and not only was it unchecked but it was completely grayed out. i have tried for days now and i can’t seem to have variable refresh rate and 120hz enabled at the same time. i thought i’d also mention that when i did the override to get the 120hz drop down box to appear and selected it my monitor info setting switch from 60hz to 120hz, pretty much confirming the monitor was actually performing 120hz. so my question is does anyone have a solution or any information on this at all?

How to enable variable refresh rate?

May I also point out that to enable VRR (Variable Refresh rate), you also need VRR capable TV or monitor.

VRR works on both 60Hz and 120Hz.

2k with 120hz XBOX ONE X not working with HP X27i

Yes I'm there and the Game is for 2k. So that is not the problem.

My Xbox One X will not accepted the Setting "1440p with 120hz" with my HP X27i Monitor. Do you now that issue ?
With a lot of monitors, the lower the resolution, the higher the refresh rate you can have.

Near as I can tell, that monitor has a native refresh rate at 1440p of 60Hz (that is what it defaults to)...it then uses Variable refresh rate to bump it up higher. As noted above, the EDID fails as the Xbox needs a 120Hz setting to run at 120Hz. The monitor will definitely do 120Hz via HDMI but only on a PC/Laptop it seems.

I can't confirm it but I suspect that the monitor's native RR for 1080p is 120Hz.

This has been an issue for quite a few HP models, both whilst using the One X and also whilst using the newer Series X/S's

Im getting these Vertical Lines on a brand new tv while playing games

My tv doesn’t support 4k UHD at 120 Hz

My tv doesn’t support 120Hz, Games won’t display at 120 FPS.

These are the only ones I can’t do but can I buy a 2.1 cable to enable Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)? It’s greyed out for me currently

Edit: I did the factory reset and did nothing. Still shows vertical lines

    Xbox Series X 1440p framerate

    Hi,

High refresh rates on Xbox Series X/S and even on Xbox One S/X provide two functions.

On Series X/S where a game supports a 120 fps mode, a high 120Hz connection facilitates that frame rate. If your display can't do 120Hz, you can't play a 120 FPS supported game. But, there is a possibility that a game may not be able to hit its intended
frame rate all the time and may drop frames. This is where VRR (variable refresh rate) via FreeSync and 120Hz come in by smoothing out the dropped frames and eliminating screen tearing.

But you don't need to change refresh rate to play a game that is locked to 60 fps. You can still keep your refresh and it won't affect your gaming experience. As I stated earlier, you can only get a 120 FPS on games that support that frame rate. The high
refresh will just make the experience smoother. It's up to developers on how their games perform on the console just like the options available in Dirt 5.

While the Series X can do 4K 120Hz with newer HDMI 2.1 displays you won't see many AAA titles doing this as it's way too demanding for the system.

    Vizio hdr10 issues

Had this problem contacted vizio and I had to uncheck the allow variable refresh rate in tv&display options on the Xbox one x and also had to turn off variable refresh rate in the pro gaming engine in the advanced picture settings.
