Headset only works when pressing directional pad Up/Down

Hello there,

After installing a controller update, I've been have multiple issues with no input from in game voice chat but can see them talking, and also myself having trouble communicating/no mic input.

After updating the head phones (turtle beach 600 Gen 2 Max) and trying all trouble shooting on their behalf, ive noticed I can only hear and talk for a few seconds after pushing up/down on the plus pad/keypad.

I've gone through the games settings and also the controller setting and cant find a push to talk option or feature.

the "push to talk" kind of feature last a few seconds after pushing the pad and happens in party chat and in all game chats. as if the controller is over riding the mic input from the wireless headphones. when I plug in my spare turtle beach Recon 500 wired headphones into the controller I no longer have audio from the game, party chat and game chat work but audio is only in the right headphone.

Another random thing I have noticed and physically watch happen, when leaving the Xbox controller sitting on the General Volume & Audio output I can watch "speaker audio" option box turn grey and also "headset is connected" pop up when I let the controller sit stationary, but as soon as i pressed the pad to scrolled through the options I.e.

- Headset Audio

- Additional options

- Audio testing & Details

- Audio Setup

The Headset is connected drops out and "Speaker audio" can be changed.

I currently do not have nor have access to a second controller to confirm it could be the fault.

The xbox, controller and headphones are all well under 3 months old.

do you have any suggestions before I'm forced to order another controller to test.

I've rebooted, Unplugged, and Checked for updates on both controller and Xbox.

I've tested the headsets on other devices and they function correctly.

xbox OS version - 10.0.22621.4480

controller firmware - 5.17.3202.0

Thank you for your reply there Tom,

I've gone through and checked all the settings as you've recommended and found that I've got them all set to allowed and/or Everyone. just for giggles I've ticked the option for the audio to be muted when head phones are connected, unplugged and depowered all headphones and checked no headphones are connected to the system, continued to start a movie on Netflix, YouTube, stan, Disney+ and COD MW2 and found as soon as the controller is powered on, it'll cut audio as if headphones are connected, but as soon as i pull the batteries from the controller all audio is restored.

I've isolated the fault to the controller that came with the Xbox, Is there a way to hard reset the controller or is it better to send it away/return it under warranty.

Once audio is cut when controller is powered, itll only return when holding/pressing plus pad.

1. Configure your settings on console:

Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then go to Profile & system.
Select Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy > View details & customize.
Select Communication & multiplayer, and then review the settings for the following:

> Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites

> You can communicate outside of Xbox with voice & text

> You can use video for communications

By the way, how is your controller connected to your Xbox Console? Is it through Bluetooth or connected through USB? And did you pair your Xbox controller to other device through Bluetooth connection?

For the meantime, you may use the Xbox accessories app to configure sound settings with your headset. To configure, follow the steps provided in the link below:

But on which direction did you press the d-pad? Up, down, left, right. You need to press Up on the Dpad to bring out the phone.
