Headset not giving audio

The headset works fine when i use it anywere else but on xbox i've tried on 2 controllers both not giveing any sound and i have no idea why

The chat headset is designed to only give you chat audio, and leave game audio coming through your television.

Any other headset will give you both game and chat audio through the headset, whether you use the new controller or the older version with the headset adapter.

You may have to double check to see if your controllers need a firmware update. Go to Settings -> Devices & streaming -> Accessories (or open the Xbox Accessories app on your console), then see if there's a firmware update for your controller. Click on
the three dots on the screen, and that should tell you if there's an update available.

Could be a setting that needs to be changed in the av setup settings. Was it working previously and then stopped? Or is this the first time youve tried using it with the xbox.
